Comparison Between MMO Titanium Strip and Traditional Anode Materials

From a material performance perspective, MMO titanium strip anodes offer clear advantages over traditional high-silicon cast iron anodes and graphite anodes. The coating consumption rate of MMO titanium strips is only 1-6 mg/A·a, which means that under the same current output conditions, their loss is negligible. Traditional anode materials have much higher consumption rates, which is the fundamental reason why MMO titanium strips can achieve a service life of 20-50 years.

From a construction convenience standpoint, the advantages of MMO titanium strips are even more obvious. Traditional anodes often require backfill with coke or other carbonaceous materials to improve conductivity, whereas MMO titanium strips can be laid directly in a sand layer. This significantly reduces material usage and construction steps. Combined with the lightweight nature of titanium strips, a single 152-meter roll of anode strip can be carried by one person, unlike heavy high-silicon cast iron anodes.

In terms of current distribution uniformity, the mesh structure offers an advantage that traditional point-type anodes cannot match. Point-type anodes tend to create uneven current distribution across the tank bottom area, with areas close to the anode receiving excessive current and areas far away receiving insufficient protection. In contrast, the mesh formed by MMO titanium strips allows current to uniformly cover the entire tank bottom like a net.

From an economic perspective, while the unit price of MMO titanium strips is higher than that of traditional anode materials, considering their long service life and maintenance-free characteristics, the life-cycle cost is actually lower. This is especially important for large tank projects, where major repairs to the cathodic protection system are difficult once the tank is in operation. In such cases, choosing the more reliable MMO titanium strip becomes particularly necessary.
