Application Scenarios, Selection and Usage Guidelines of Platinum-Coated Electrolytic Sheets

With stable electrochemical performance and strong working condition adaptability, platinum-coated electrolytic sheets are dedicated to high-precision, high-purity and high-stability electrolysis scenarios, differing from conventional coated electrolytic sheets. They are widely applied in civil water purification, industrial manufacturing, environmental treatment, new energy and other fields, with differentiated usage characteristics and selection requirements for different scenarios.

In civil and light commercial scenarios, platinum-coated electrolytic sheets are mainly applied in hydrogen-rich water equipment, household electrolytic water purification devices and small water disinfection equipment. These scenarios impose strict requirements on safety. The inert characteristics of platinum coating can completely avoid heavy metal dissolution during electrolysis and meet food contact safety standards. Meanwhile, it can stably electrolyze to generate hydrogen and decompose residual chlorine and ozone in water, improving water quality taste and safety. Compared with ordinary electrolytic sheets, it features stable and controllable hydrogen production concentration and uniform water purification effect, without impurity pollution during long-term operation, making it the preferred accessory for high-end electrolytic water purification equipment.

It has more extensive industrial applications. Firstly, in the precision electroplating industry, platinum-coated electrolytic sheets provide stable and uniform current to ensure dense, flat and impurity-free coatings, suitable for high-precision precious metal electroplating and high-end hardware electroplating processes with strict requirements on coating purity. Secondly, in electrolytic metallurgy and organic electrolytic synthesis scenarios, they can withstand long-term corrosion of acidic electrolyte, maintain efficient electrolysis state continuously, and prevent product purity degradation caused by electrode loss. In addition, they can operate stably in harsh working conditions such as seawater desalination, industrial saline wastewater treatment and auxiliary chlor-alkali electrolysis, with outstanding salt spray resistance and oxidation resistance.

In actual selection and application, standardized operational guidelines can effectively extend equipment service life and ensure electrolysis efficiency. First, distinguish coating processes. Priority should be given to products with high-temperature sintered platinum coating rather than thin electroplated coating, as sintered coatings have better compactness, scour resistance and shedding resistance, suitable for long-term continuous operation. Second, match coating thickness according to working conditions. Thin coatings are applicable to mild civil water purification scenarios, while thickened platinum coatings are required for industrial scenarios with high salinity, strong acidity and long-term continuous electrolysis. Third, standardize operation procedures. Smooth equipment start and stop are recommended to avoid coating damage caused by instantaneous high current impact. Clean and dry storage is required after long-term shutdown to prevent substrate edge corrosion caused by residual electrolyte.

Different from ruthenium-based electrodes specialized in chlorine evolution and iridium-based electrodes specialized in acid resistance, platinum-coated electrolytic sheets have no single working condition limitations, featuring stronger universality and higher stability. Despite slightly higher procurement costs, they deliver lower comprehensive operating costs in high-precision and high-standard electrolysis scenarios due to their ultra-long service life and stable electrolysis performance, and have become the standard configuration of high-end electrochemical equipment.
