MMO/Ti Mesh Ribbon Anode – Summary for Impressed Current Cathodic Protection (ICCP) Engineering

Product Configuration
Core material is ASTM B265 Gr. 1 titanium flat-wire mesh, 6.35 mm × 0.635 mm, 12 mm × 6 mm aperture. A thermally-decomposed IrO₂-Ta₂O₅ catalytic layer, 8–12 µm thick, is applied on both sides. https://dinoer-anodes.comThe mesh is factory spot-welded to a 12.7 mm × 0.9 mm titanium current distributor to form a modular grid, supplied in 150 m coils that can be cut or extended on site.

Operating Principle

wmmo

In an ICCP circuit the ribbon is laid between the structure and the back-fill sand. The positive feed is connected to the distributor; under DC load the IrO₂-Ta₂O₅ coating evolves O₂ (or limited Cl₂) and drives a uniform current through the electrolyte, polarising the steel to a protection potential of ≤ –0.85 V vs CSE, thereby suppressing the corrosion macro-cell.

Typical Applications
a. External base-plate CP for new or existing crude, product, LNG and chemical storage tanks.
b. Marine RC bridges, tunnels and wharf piles to mitigate chloride-induced reinforcement corrosion.
c. High-resistivity (> 100 Ω·m) sand or chloride-contaminated concrete where high-silicon cast-iron or graphite anodes are ineffective.

Key Performance Data
Design current density: 100–300 A/m² continuous, 600 A/m² peak (≤ 2 h).
Coating wear rate: 2–6 mg/(A·a).
Design life: ≥ 50 years at 100 A/m².
Weld node contact resistance: ≤ 0.5 mΩ.
Linear mass: 0.10–0.12 kg/m; UTS ≥ 240 MPa; elongation ≥ 24 %.

Engineering Benefits
(1) Uniform current spread – grid pitch 1.0–2.0 m limits potential spread on tank bottom to < 50 mV, avoiding over-protection and coating disbondment.
(2) High installation rate – light, flexible, no coke breeze required; > 800 m² per operator-day.
(3) Reliable connections – silver brazed cable take-off with dual-wall heat-shrink gives pull-out strength ≥ 500 N and IP68 sealing.
(4) Environmentally compliant – Pb- and Cd-free, main reaction product O₂, meets IMO green-port and EPA criteria.

Design Guidelines
Protective current density: bare steel 10 mA/m², epoxy-coated steel (1–3 % holiday) 1–3 mA/m², chloride-contaminated RC 20–50 mA/m².
Circuit resistance: one 152 m coil typically 0.8–1.2 Ω in 100 Ω·cm sand, satisfying the ≤ 2 Ω specification.
Layout: continuous circumferential or serpentine; edge zone tightened to 0.5 m pitch to maintain current distribution factor ≤ 1.5.

Overall, the MMO/Ti mesh ribbon anode offers the lowest life-cycle cost and highest protection reliability for tank-bottom and marine RC ICCP projects, combining low consumption, high output, extended durability and rapid installation.
