MMO Titanium Mesh Anode - A Mainstream Core Accessory for ICCP Cathodic Protection in Large-Scale Projects
As the industrial anti-corrosion industry puts forward higher requirements for the stability, service life and protection uniformity of cathodic protection systems, the drawbacks of traditional anode materials have become increasingly prominent. Graphite anodes are prone to loss and poor conductive stability, while ordinary metal anodes are easy to passivate and have a fast corrosion rate, making them unable to adapt to high-corrosion, large-area and long-term industrial operation scenarios. Against this background, MMO titanium mesh anodes have become the preferred core component for large-scale ICCP cathodic protection projects due to their excellent comprehensive performance.
An MMO titanium mesh anode is a new type of functional anode material with a titanium mesh substrate coated with multi-layer mixed metal oxide coatings. The titanium substrate itself has excellent resistance to acid, alkali and salt spray corrosion, with high mechanical strength and good deformation resistance, enabling it to adapt to various harsh working conditions including underground burial, seawater immersion and industrial humidity. The precious metal oxide coating on the surface endows the anode with ultra-high electrochemical activity, extremely low resistance and strong passivation resistance, ensuring long-term stable output of uniform current without current attenuation or local failure during operation.

MMO titanium mesh anodes have outstanding advantages in practical engineering applications. The mesh structure greatly increases the current divergence area, and its current distribution uniformity is far better than that of traditional solid anodes. It can perfectly solve the problem of uneven protection at dead corners such as edges, gaps and deep parts of large steel structures, making the protection effect of the entire ICCP system more comprehensive and balanced. Meanwhile, the lightweight mesh structure is easy to install, and can be cut and spliced arbitrarily according to on-site engineering conditions, adapting to various installation scenarios such as inner walls of storage tanks, side walls of pipe galleries and large-area steel structure walls with high construction flexibility.
From the perspective of operation and maintenance costs, MMO titanium mesh anodes have a service life of more than 20 years, far longer than traditional anode materials. They rarely require inspection and replacement during operation with almost no later operation and maintenance costs. At present, they have been widely used in large-area anti-corrosion projects such as petrochemical storage tanks, marine wharf steel structures, large underground pipe networks and sewage treatment equipment, gradually replacing traditional anode products and becoming the mainstream standard in the industrial cathodic protection industry.
